Tragedies

Cyclone that hit Myanmar (Bhurma) on May 2nd .

On 2 May 2008 tropical cyclone Nargis hit the coast of Myanmar and devastated large parts of the low-lying delta region of the Irrawaddy River. Winds exceeded 190 kilometres per hour as the storm ripped through the Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon (estimated population 6 million) for over than ten hours. Homes were flattened, more sturdy structures damaged, trees uprooted and power lines downed. In rural parts of the country up to 95 per cent of all homes were destroyed. This is a situation that the country has not dealt with before and the scale of the needs is clearly massive. Casualty figures continue to rise. The data that is currently available to the International Federation suggests that up to 1 million people might have lost their homes.

Earthquake that hit China on May 12th .

The quake that struck China yesterday was the country's largest natural disaster since 1976, when an earthquake killed 240,000 people and the government came under heavy criticism for trying to cover up the disaster. This time, the government seems to be confronting the problem head-on and Premier Wen Jiabao quickly traveled to Chengdu to oversee the rescue operations. Around 50,000 soldiers and police officers were mobilized to help with the efforts. The LAT notes that checkpoints were set up in an apparent effort to bar journalists from entering some of the hardest hit areas. It's little wonder that the Chinese government would be nervous about the media's portrayal since everyone says the rescue effort will be a test of the country's ability to handle a crisis before the Olympics in August.

As you can see , all these people are victims to natural phenomenons just recently . And worse part is they're poor countries . I'm not asking you to crack open your piggybank and donating to them or flying there to help them . I think it'll be good enough if you could pray for them even as you sit in front of the com reading this .

1. that they'll get all the aid and help they can get .
2. that God will send His comforting spirit over all the lands .
3. that the death toll will not increase and all of them will be safe .
4. that God's protection will be over them .
5. that they'll be able to build back their homes and country again .
